Wildlife, wellbeing and community

A meadow for nature and people

Poringland Wildlife Meadow is being developed as a richer habitat for wildflowers, pollinators, birds and other wildlife, while giving local people a peaceful and welcoming place to enjoy nature.

Why we record wildlife

Community sightings help us understand which species use the meadow and how this changes through the seasons. The information can support future planting, cutting and habitat management.

Chet Valley B Line

The Chet Valley B Line is a pollinator corridor running from the River Chet's source in Poringland towards Hardley and the River Yare. Recording bees, butterflies, hoverflies and wildflowers helps connect the meadow with this wider local project.

Poringland Parish Council

The meadow is on land owned and managed by Poringland Parish Council. This website supports community recording and learning. It is not the Council's official website and does not publish statements on its behalf.

A place to pause or connect

The Mind and Chatty Benches

The benches help make the meadow welcoming for people as well as wildlife. They offer a choice between quiet reflection and friendly conversation.

The Mind bench

This provides a calm place where you can pause, reflect and enjoy the natural surroundings. Time in green spaces can support wellbeing, improve mood and reduce feelings of stress.

The Chatty Bench

This lets visitors know that friendly conversation is welcome. It can help neighbours meet, encourage a simple hello and offer connection to people who may feel lonely or isolated.

Please note: The benches and this website do not provide counselling, diagnosis or crisis support. In an immediate emergency, call 999. For urgent mental health help in England, contact NHS 111.

Local voices

Community discussion and involvement

Ben Goldsbourgh and Tommy Goodson met at the meadow to discuss the project and its future development. Their involvement forms part of the meadow's wider community story, alongside volunteers, residents and local organisations.

Tommy Goodson has also supported local environmental work connected with the Chet Valley B Line, the Parish Council meadow and community planting in Poringland.
